Holistic Health Tips from Sheridan Semple H.H.P., C.C.A., C.N.C. Holistic Practitioner, Medicinal Aromatherapist, Nutritionist
It’s scary out there right now and there’s lots of misinformation, so here are 10 some simple tips to support your health today from Holistic Health Practitioner Sheridan Semple. Plus, Semple’s bonus essential oil suggestions to help you stay calmer and support your immune system.
EATING RIGHT: Easier said than done but eat right. What’s that even mean in all the advice noise? Use the acronym KISS – keep it simple sweetie: Eat whole foods – items that come straight from the ground or walks, swims or flies over it. If it went to a processing lab, skip it. Processed foods are harder on your body. You want all your resources helping your immune system, not taxing it. Whatever choices you’re making are either a) supporting your immune system or b) stressing it. It’s that simple. Go lighter, eat less and assist your body with whole foods. Don’t waste your energy on unnecessary digesting. It’s shocking how much daily energy gets used for digestion only. Skip the sugar. It’s been shown even small amounts drop your immunity by 50%. You don’t need that right now!
MANAGING STRESS: Be gentle with yourself. I realize in the midst of being stressed and totally freaked out you probably want to eat lots of sweets, comfort food, and overeat, to boot. It’s hard to control cravings when the fridge is only steps away, so do your best. I’m laying out ideal tips here, so pick and choose what you can actually do. Speaking of freaking out, we all keep reading how staying calm is so important, that stress literally taxes your immune system. How the heck are we supposed to not feel some anxiety and fear right now with a pandemic? Everything’s closed, you might be out of work or your financial portfolio is plummeting? I find it stressful to read how stress is stressing my immune system! It’s recommended to take a break from the updates and stay present in the moment. Read a book, start a puzzle or binge an old favorite TV show. It’s a great time to unplug from all the noise.
ESSENTIAL OIL REMEDIES: Essential oils to the rescue. I have been using lots of calming essential oils such as lavandin grosso, roman chamomile, vetiver and palo santo. Himalayan cedarwood, blue spruce and black pine are supportive of the adrenals and are grounding for bonus points. Oregano and thyme support the immune system. Eucalyptus, laurel leaf, and tea tree are beneficial to the respiratory system. Stress drops your body’s vibration levels. That’s part of why it lowers your immunity. Luckily, medicinal grade essential oils bring your vibration up, so use frequently to keep giving yourself regular boost. Once a day isn’t going to cut it. Think of it as a few moments of self-care.
VIRTUAL AROMATHERAPY & NEW MOON READINGS: In addition to one-on-one Shamanic Astrology and Spiritual Aromatherapy readings, Semple offers free New Moon online readings and recommends essential oils to pair with the monthly energies of Astrology as a benefit to health, wellness and renewed energies. Take the best care of yourself you can right now, given the stress you’re experiencing. Give yourself a break and let go of doing this perfectly! I like the saying, “even perfection isn’t good enough,” so why bother with the pressure?
