Aspen has been an enclave of elevated thought and lofty ideals going back to the days of Jerome B. Wheeler and, later, Walter and Elizabeth Paepcke, the founders of The Aspen Institute and the establishment of Silver City’s ideals of body, mind and spirit.
That reputation for grand thinking and the power of discourse lives on today in the institute’s yearly Aspen Ideas Festival, which turns town into brain-central station for a week each summer.
