Aspen has been an enclave of elevated thought and lofty ideals going back to the days of Jerome B. Wheeler and, later, Walter and Elizabeth Paepcke, the founders of The Aspen Institute and the establishment of Silver City’s ideals of body, mind and spirit.
That reputation for grand thinking and the power of discourse lives on today in the institute’s yearly Aspen Ideas Festival, which turns town into brain-central station for a week each summer.

Usually, when you take a sip of rye whiskey, you’re left with a slightly spicy taste that lingers for a few seconds after you swallow. But when you drink Laws Whiskey House’s rye whiskey, you get more of a light, pleasant hint of vegetables — like serrano peppers — instead.
In many ways, these two mountain towns stand in contrast to each other—in atmosphere, ski culture, and the food and drink on offer.
